AMD's New Phenoms

AMD has just released its new Phenom triple- and quad-core processors. The quad-core parts are B3 stepping, which means they don't have the TLB bug that plagued the earlier Phenoms: X4 9850 (2.5 GHz, with unlocked multipliers and 4000 MHz HyperTransport bus), 9750 (2.4 GHz), 9650 (2.3 GHz) and 9550 (2.2 GHz). The quads have 95-125 watts TDP, but there is also a 65-watt quad called 9100e, which runs at 2.1 GHz.

The triple-core procs are the 8x00 parts: 8400 is 2.1 GHz and the 8600 is 2.3 GHz.

Prices are here

I can't wait to have my hands on one of these babies as I will be upgrading my PC soon.

Emo Rights Now!

Anti-Emo riots in Mexico. Now I've seen everything.

It reminds me of those riots instigated by punks from Pook Dagohoy against Krus na Ligas hip-hoppers during UP Fair.

Missile Goes Kaput

I think I've seen this French-made anti-tank missile displayed in a defense exhibit a few years back.

Quantum of Solace

I can't wait to see this movie. Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond after seeing Casino Royale. His next Bond outing, Quantum of Solace, should pick up where Royale left off.

Intel Copies AMD, Again

Intel is following AMD's lead again. The upcoming Nehalem architecture of Intel will have a shared L3 cache, just like AMD's Phenom processor. The new processor will also feature an onboard memory controller, similar to the one introduced by AMD for its Athlon 64 processor back in 2003, as well as QuickPath, Intel's version of AMD's HyperTransport point-to-point link.

Audacity of Bigotry

This is Barack Hussein Obama's pastor, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., spewing vitriol on America. Obama called Wright his "spiritual mentor," but is now distancing himself from the firebrand.

Back to Stormwind

I'm back playing World of Warcraft again. How long has it been, six months? It's good to know that some of my friends are still there, like Akiran and Adriin. Now I can't wait to whoop some Hordes' @$$es again :)

Advanced Micro Devices demos the 780G chipset, which totally pwned Intel's G35.

Filipinos Sending 1 Billion Texts a Day

Now that's a lot of corny forwarded jokes.

Filipinos are sending around 1 billion text messages a day last year, according to industry sources, up from 500 million daily in 2006, and 250 million in 2005. The Philippines has around 50 million mobile phone subscribers. In contrast, China has 500 million mobile phone subscribers, yet sends only 1.6 billion texts per day.

Physics of Surfing

I've taken surfing as a sport recently, and while it is something opposite to the geeky activities that I do, there are still some physics involve with it. Science Wire has an interesting discussion about the science behind surfing. Wikipedia too has an excellent background on the sport.

More of me surfing, here.

Cool Goodies from AMD

Advanced Micro Devices is coming up with cool goodies, announcing them in CeBit fair in Hannover, Germany.

First up is the 780G chipset with integrated ATI 3200 GPU. This is great as I am looking to upgrade my AM2 motherboard to AM2+ (and eventually to quad-core Phenoms, from my current Athlon X2), and the new ones with the new chipset look awesome (reviews here and here).

AMD also announced that it will release the 45-nm version of its quad-core CPUs, Barcelona (for servers) and Deneb (for desktops) in H1 2008. The company also announced the availability of a low-power (45 watts) 2.5GHz Athlon 4850E X2 dual core processors.

New Catalyst drivers for ATI Radeon 3800 series graphics cards will be available tomorrow. The Catalyst 8.3 supports CrossFireX, a multi-GPU configuration that can pair up to 4 video cards.

Freedom of Expression

Now that is what I call irony.

Batman Squirter

I used to have this toy when I was a kid. Ah, nostalgia.

Eye of the Beholder

Is this car cool or what? Guigiaro is building this futuristic hybrid, complete with all the bells and whistles: solar-cell roof, all-wheel drive, 155 mph top speed, 3.3-liter engine, Hybrid Synergy Drive system with a combined output of 268 horsepower and 213 pound-feet of torque.

Wired Autopia hates the car's looks though, labeling it as the world's ugliest Prius. It looks cool for me.
